Board Members in the News
At their annual Celebration of Strength event on January 21, 2010, Sky Foundation board member, Arlene Frank, was honored as a HAVEN award recipient with the Heart of HAVEN Award. The award is "given to an individual who truly emulates the work and vision of HAVEN. This person has dedicated their life to raising his/her voice against violence and has made a significant impact."
Arlene is Director of the Oakland Community College Womencenter and Sky Foundation, Inc.'s current secretary.
Our board member, Gerry Barrons, was honored on January 22, 2009 at HAVEN's annual Celebration of Strength event with a Heart of HAVEN Award for those who have raised their voices against domestic violence and abuse of women.
Gerry's activism began in the 1970s and continues today. She is especially proud of her recent role as a co-producer of the film, "Passing the Torch," about the "second wave" of the women's movement in Michigan.
Sheila Sky Kasselman, our founder, was recently nominated by Advisory Board member, Ann Silverman, MD, for a 2009 Michiganian of the Year award sponsored by The Detroit News. Dr. Silverman and Sheila collaborated on the formation of the Sky Foundation, whose mission is to fund research to discover a blood test for the early detection of pancreatic cancer.
